Charlotte’s Web

January 25 – February 16

Adapted by  Joseph Robinette

Based on the book by E.B. White

The Children’s Literature Association named this “the best American children’s book of the past two hundred years,” and Joseph Robinette, working with the advice of E.B. White, has created a play that captures this work in a thrilling and utterly practical theatrical presentation. All the enchanting characters are here: Wilbur, the irresistible young pig who desperately wants to avoid the butcher; Fern, a girl who understands what animals say to each other; Templeton, the gluttonous rat who can occasionally be talked into a good deed; the Zuckerman family; the Arables; and, most of all, the extraordinary spider, Charlotte, who proves to be “a true friend and a good writer.” Determined to save Wilbur, Charlotte begins her campaign with the “miracle” of her web in which she writes, “Some pig.” It’s the beginning of a victorious campaign which ultimately ends with the now-safe Wilbur doing what is most important to Charlotte.

The Berenstain Bears on Stage

Book and Lyrics by  Stan and Jan Berenstain

Music by Elliot Lawrence and Jamie Broza

The “world’s foremost expert on the Berenstain Bears,” guitar-strumming Cowboy Joe, is the show’s stage director—introducing and commenting on the play’s five episodes which are based on five classic Berenstain Bears books. The Berenstain Bears’ New Baby: Small Bear is an only cub, and he is a little lonely. But, he is growing—he has outgrown his own little bed. And he is about to become a big brother! Papa Bear builds him a new, bigger bed as they talk about the coming birth of the new baby in the family. When Sister Bear arrives, Small Bear becomes Brother Bear and he finds, to his delight, that he won’t be lonely anymore. The Berenstain Bears and the Messy Room: All families have a messy room or two in the house. In the Berenstain Bears’ tree house, the cubs’ room is the messiest. Mama Bear decides it’s time for a major cleanup; comic conflict results, which is solved by Papa Bear’s neatness plan. The Berenstain Bears and the Double Dare: It’s hard to resist someone daring you to prove you’re not a chicken! Neighborhood bullies, Too Tall and his gang, put Brother on the spot by daring him to swipe one of Farmer Ben’s watermelons. Farmer Ben catches Brother in the act and gives him good advice about dealing with bad influences. The Berenstain Bears Tell the Truth: An impromptu game of soccer inside the Bears’ tree house results in one very broken lamp. Brother and Sister concoct a far-fetched story about a bird flying in the window and knocking the lamp over. Somehow, Papa and Mama Bear doubt this explanation. As the truth comes out, Brother and Sister learn that “no matter how you try, you can’t make truth out of a lie.” The Berenstain Bears Get Stage Fright: Sister Bear is selected to be the star of the Bear Country School production of Grizzlystiltskin. She is very nervous about her role and has trouble memorizing her lines. She practices and practices to get them right. Brother has no such problem—he is supremely confident. But on the night of the performance, Brother gets stage fright and forgets his lines while well-prepared Sister not only has her own part down pat but feeds Brother his lines as well.

Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00 PM

April 22 at 7pm
April 23 at 4pm
April 24 at 4:30pm

Written by  Joseph Robinette

This new dramatization of C.S. Lewis’ classic, set in the land of Narnia, faithfully recreates the magic and mystery of Aslan, the great lion, his struggle with the White Witch, and the adventures of four children who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe into the exciting, never-to-be-forgotten Narnia. The intense action features chases, duels and escapes as the witch is determined to keep Narnia in her possession and to end the reign of Aslan. All the memorable episodes from the story are represented in this exciting dramatization: the temptation of Edmund by the witch, the slaying of the evil wolf by Peter, the witnessing of Aslan’s resurrection by Susan and Lucy, the crowing of the four new rulers of Narnia, and more. The supporting characters are also here: the unicorn, the centaur and other forest animals, along with Father Christmas, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver and Tumnus the Faun. This story of love, faith, courage and giving, with its triumph of good over evil, is a true celebration of life.

– A change of clothes and shoes you are comfortable moving in for the dance portion of audition day.
– A headshot and resume.
– Plus a list of any conflicts you have during the rehearsal dates.  Remember, no conflicts during performances.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

  • Ash (Male – Tenor/Baritone): The hero and iconic character of the musical. This devoted S-Mart housewares employee evolves over the course of the show from a cowardly college student to a wisecracking deadite slayer with his detachable hand chainsaw and 12 gauge “boomstick.”
  • Linda (Female – Mezzo-Soprano): The girl next door. Linda is sweet, thoughtful, and completely devoted to Ash, until she turns evil and tries to kill him. She laughs an annoyingly inordinate amount of time after transforming.
  • Cheryl (Female – Mezzo-Soprano): Ash’s sister and the odd woman out in the group. Looking to spend a week relaxing, she is the recipient of Scotty’s jokes and torment. The only one to sense the evil surrounding the cabin, she is the first to be possessed, turning her into an aggressive, foul-mouthed demon that speaks in very bad puns. Spends the majority of the show locked in the cellar.
  • Scotty (Male – Tenor/Baritone): Good looking, cocky, a prankster and Ash’s best friend. Thinks himself the brave one until he’s forced to kill, then his panic leads him to flee. He returns to warn Ash about the woods and attempts to help his friend even as he is knocking on death’s door.
  • Shelly (Female – Mezzo-Soprano): Beautiful, easy, and not too smart. She is Scotty’s latest fling and looking to party. Just because she becomes an evil demon doesn’t mean she can’t look good doing it!
  • Annie (Female – Mezzo-Soprano): Quite the overbearing explorer who finds missing pages to the Necronomicon and wants to reunite with her father to continue their research. Very bossy and drawn to Ash. Must be comfortable in a tear away semi-revealing costume.
  • Ed (Male – Tenor/Baritone): Annie’s coworker, boyfriend, and doormat. He travels with her to the cabin to proceed with their research of the book of the dead. After turning evil, his confidence may lack but this “Bit Part Demon” is ready to sing!
  • Jake (Male – Tenor/Baritone): Stereotypical Southerner and reliable enough to help Annie and Ed find the path to the cabin, but too stupid and stubborn to listen to reason that will keep him alive.

Ensemble Cast:

  • Evil Trees: These are the true comedians of the show. A nasty group of trees out to get the campers and will stop at nothing, be prepared to be gross!
  • Moose: A possessed, singing, Candarian Demon moose head! That enough makes it awesome, except once moose get going they never stop!

Note:  Must be 18 or older to audition

Seussical

June 7 – July 14

(No performances June 28, 29 or 30)

Book and Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens

Book and Music by Stephen Flaherty

Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza that brings to life all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

Seussical is fun for the whole family!

Winnie-the-Pooh Christmas Tail

December 14 – December 29*

Book, music and lyrics by James W. Rodgers

Inspired by A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh.

A very special Friend-and-Relation tells Christopher Robin a story of a Christmas Eve very long ago (about last year) when Eeyore, the old gray donkey who lives by himself in the thistle corner of Hundred-Acre Wood, was absolutely miserable. It seems that he lost his tail and Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet got all of their friends and a search was organized. There is a great deal of fun and excitement, plus delightful songs, in the adventure that follows. Its theme, which concerns caring, sharing and the importance of cultivating friends, makes this a very special and enchanting musical suitable for any occasion.
